To enhance and synergize research
capacity for biotechnology
innovation and development,
regulation, and public understanding
on biotech-led agricultural
and health solutions in Kenya.
The Kenya University Biotechnology Consortium (KUBICO) and the Kenya Medical Association (KMA) entered a collaborative agreement on Saturday the 6th of December 2014 at the Sarova Panafric, Nairobi (MoU being developed). The two institutions are collaborating for long term goals, and on immediate matters of national importance. The long term and continuous collaboration on research, training and policy formulation will accrue (1) access to research facilities, samples and expertise from KUBICO member institutions (2) short-term training for professional development, Masters and PhD. On the other hand, immediate partnership on current and emergent national issues will entail (1) capacity strengthening through workshops and roundtable discussions on current and emergent national issues requiring biotechnology expertise to inform national policies (2) partnership on public education – use of biotechnology in health solutions; safety aspects of biotech products to peoples’ health.
